New ideas are identified on regular intervals, primarily from the close collaboration partner MIVAC center-of-excellence at University of Gothenburg, but external sources within the research field are also welcome. These ideas are then subjected to an assessment by external experts for their originality and industrial potential as well as for freedom-to-operate. Promising ideas are offered the possibility to be further exploited by MIVAC Development, which acts as an IPR holding company. Most projects undergo various steps in verifying and validating the finding to obtain and strengthen the proof-of-concept. Following successful verification, further commercialization may be either out-licensing or project development in separate spin-off companies.
